Free Emerald Isle Trolley Service Launches Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day Weekend is one of the busiest times of the year on the Crystal Coast, and this year the town of Emerald Isle is introducing a brand-new way to help residents and visitors get around town with less stress.
From May 22–24, Emerald Isle will offer a FREE trolley service running from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening. The trolley route will travel along Emerald Drive and Coast Guard Road, helping ease traffic congestion while giving beachgoers easier access to restaurants, shopping, and entertainment throughout town.
The pilot program is being operated in partnership with Diamond Bus Company and is designed to improve transportation during one of the busiest weekends of the year on Bogue Banks.
Easier Access Around Emerald Isle
Holiday weekends in Emerald Isle often mean crowded parking lots, long waits for traffic, and packed restaurants during evening hours. The new trolley service gives visitors and locals the opportunity to park once and enjoy the island without constantly moving their vehicles.
The route includes convenient stops near many popular destinations including:
- Station Street Public Parking
- Coast Guard Road at Tradewinds
- Ocean Oaks Park
- Gaffer’s
- Salty Pirate area
- The Growler
- Fish Hut Grill
- Snapperz Grill & Steam Bar
- Emerald Plantation Shopping Area
- Dollar General
The service is intended to make dining, shopping, and enjoying the beach town atmosphere easier while reducing traffic congestion during peak evening hours.
A Trial Run for Future Transportation Options
Town leaders have explained that this Memorial Day Weekend trolley service is also being used as a test program to evaluate whether a longer-term shuttle service could work in Emerald Isle.
Officials plan to monitor:
- Ridership numbers
- Most-used stops
- Timing and efficiency
- Community feedback
- Traffic reduction benefits
If successful, the trolley system could potentially expand during future summer seasons and holiday weekends.
Supporting Tourism and Local Businesses
The Crystal Coast continues to grow in popularity each year, and transportation improvements like this can benefit both visitors and local businesses alike.
By making it easier to move around town without worrying about parking, the trolley encourages people to visit more restaurants, shops, and entertainment spots throughout Emerald Isle.
For vacationers, it also creates a more relaxing experience by reducing the hassle of traffic and crowded parking areas during one of the busiest weekends of the summer season.
